    Penguin Random House Acquires Independent Publisher & Self-Help Space Leader Hay House

    Penguin Random House has acquired independent book publisher Hay House, a leader in the self-help, health and wellness space. The acquisition was announced today by Nihar Malaviya, CEO, Penguin Random House, and Reid Tracy, CEO, Hay House. Terms were not disclosed.

    NY Times: PRH 2023 “Best” Illustrated Children’s & Children’s Books

    The New York Times Book Review’s selections of the “best” among the year’s children’s books is as coveted an honor its counterpart adult recognitions. The TBR publishes their former choices in two separate presentations.

    42 PRH NYTBR “100 Notable Books of 2023”

    Of all the many major literary and cultural recognitions our authors’ and imprints’ books receive, none is as encompassing and as resonant as the New York Times Book Review editors’ annual picks of the year’s most “Notable” 100 titles. Here are their 2023 selections: 16 Penguin Random House Fiction and Poetry and 26 Nonfiction and Memoirs. So deserved. The entire list is online now, and will be published in the December 3 print edition. Next up, the 2023 “10 Best” list.

    George Smiley, John le Carré’s Signature Creation,To Return

    Penguin Random House has revealed that a new novel starring George Smiley will be published globally in Fall 2024. The novel will be authored by John le Carré’s son, Nick Harkaway, an award-winning novelist and author of titles including Gnomon and Tigerman. The novel will be published by Viking, in the US, UK, and Canada and international language editions are currently being negotiated.

    Riverhead Books had two big reasons to cheer this week: THE HEAVEN & EARTH GROCERY STORE by James McBride has been selected by both Barnes & Noble and Amazon as their Book of the Year. This honor is especially sweet, as James McBride is a longtime, beloved house author who has spent his entire writing career at Penguin Random House.

    The sweetest sounds we heard the morning of November 10 emanated from the Los Angeles-based Recording Academy®, announcing that three Penguin Random House Audio productions have been nominated for a GRAMMY® Award for “Best Audio Book, Narration, and Storytelling Recording.”

    Lauri Hornik, President & Publisher, Rocky Pond Books, Featured in People Magazine

    Lauri Hornik saw firsthand as her daughter struggled with anxiety and depression and reached for books she could relate to that chronicled mental illness. This experience set Hornik out to find literature aimed at young children and teenagers that centers mental health, and inspired her to launch Rocky Pond Books, an imprint at Penguin Young Readers committed to publishing books that shows kids they’re not alone.

    Debut Novelist Raul Palma on Subverting Genre & Not Disclosing Secrets

    Raul Palma‘s  A HAUNTING IN HIALEAH GARDENS (Dutton) is a genre-bending debut with a fiercely political heart. Set in Miami, the novel explores what happens when Hugo Contreras, the resident babaláwo at a botanica, receives a phone call from his nemesis and debt collector, Alexi Ramirez, who is in desperate need of a spirtual cleansing.

    Random House to Publish Memoir of Serena Williams

    Random House will publish two books by cultural icon Serena Williams, winner of 39 major tennis titles, four-time Olympic gold medalist, and champion for equality and justice in sports. North American rights were acquired by VP and Executive Editor Jamia Wilson and Publisher Andy Ward from Suzanne Gluck at WME. Both books will be edited by Wilson. Audiobook editions will be released simultaneously by Penguin Random House Audio. Global publishing rights have been sold in 11 territories with more to be announced. The publishing deal was announced today by Sanyu Dillon, President of the Random House Group.
